Case Study – Wisair
Background
Wisair is a semiconductor company that provides a single-chip based Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB
solutions for personal computing, consumer electronics, and mobile devices. As a wireless technology,
Wisair's products must include RF shielding in order to comply with industry standards and avoid RF
interference.
The Need
Wisair needed 2000 units of a relatively complex shield in a very short timeframe of 3 days.
The Solution
The design of the component was submitted to Masach's Engineering department for review (fig 1 ). After
careful inspection, Masach's engineers concluded that the design could be simplified while maintaining
the same functionality as well as the same shielding requirements (fig 2). The design optimization will
not only allow a faster turnaround in small runs, it will be also compatible with cheaper tooling used
for large-scale runs. The future proof design optimization is extremely important when considering the
costs of re-designing and re-testing prototypes that move into mass production.
"The expertise of Masach's Engineering department in the simplification of the design has made it possible
for them to supply the desired quantities according to the desired schedule and will also benefit us in
the fabrication of future runs." Says Ing. Mickey Karniel, Wisair's engineering leader.
